My Name is Niki. This is not the life I planned for.
I was following the typical middle class, white, American girl story. I grew up in a small conservative leaning town near enough to Seattle, and suburban enough, to not be too redneck-like. I went to a good college, was getting my degree, and I was planning on moving back home for awhile until I could find work in a recession riddled society.
My parents got divorced though, and my safety net fell. I ended up working 4 jobs in Seattle. I didn’t earn enough money to be able to pay my student loans but I worked too many hours to be allowed to defer them.
One day, boyfriend asked me if I wanted to go to Switzerland with him, were he was moving for work. I figured “why not?” worst case, I come back here and work more jobs that didn’t pay enough.
The rest is history.
And for fun, the first five of the 36 questions that lead to love:
1. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
Assuming dead people are allowed, Robin Williams. RIP.
If dead people are not allowed, Jennifer Lawrence.
2. Would you like to be famous? In what way?
No, I don’t think I would like to be famous. I’m a very anxious person and I don’t like being in the center of attention because I imagine everyone is judging my every move. I prefer to be the voice and confidant to the famous person.
3. Before making a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you are going to say? Why?
Yes, because otherwise I will forget what I need to ask.
4. What would constitute a “perfect” day for you?
Playing fetch with a dog, playing a game of ultimate, watching a movie or reading a good fantasy book, having a few drinks with friends with good conversation.
5. When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?
I think the last song I sang to someone was “On Top of Old Smokey.” They were humming the tune but they were also learning english, and I don’t think they knew the song. So I sang it to them to be silly.
And some more mundane questions:
What do I love?
Animals. Ultimate Frisbee. User Experience Design. Trees and rocks.
What do I hate?
Mosquitoes. Being hungry, cold, wet, or tired. Bad cheese.
